Heather Huggett, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist

With years of experience as a Dental Hygienist, Heather is passionate about helping clients achieve whole-body wellness through airway-focused and functional care. She has dedicated much of her continuing education to sleep health, sleep disorders, and orofacial myofunctional disorders.

Her approach focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of symptoms rather than simply treating the surface issue. By looking at breathing patterns, tongue function, swallowing, oral habits, and other interconnected factors, Heather works to better understand what may be contributing to each client's concerns.

Heather’s Approach

Looking Beyond the Surface

Orofacial symptoms are often connected to patterns involving breathing, sleep, tongue posture, swallowing, jaw function, posture, and oral habits. Heather's approach is centered on understanding those relationships and creating individualized therapy based on each client's functional needs.

Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, Essential-OMT focuses on personalized exercises and functional retraining designed around the individual.

Airway-Focused

Considering breathing patterns and airway-related concerns as part of overall oral function.

Root-Cause Oriented

Looking beyond the immediate symptom to understand contributing functional patterns.

Personalized

Creating therapy plans based on the client's individual evaluation, needs, and goals.

Whole-Body Perspective

Recognizing that oral function can be connected with sleep, posture, digestion, and overall wellness.

Supporting Better Function From the Inside Out

The muscles of the mouth, face, and tongue play an important role in everyday functions such as breathing, swallowing, chewing, speaking, and resting posture. When these patterns are not functioning optimally, they may contribute to symptoms that affect more than just the mouth.

Myofunctional therapy uses targeted exercises and functional retraining to help support healthier patterns and better coordination over time.

Experience Grounded in Oral and Airway Health

Heather's background as a Dental Hygienist gave her years of experience in oral health and preventive care. Her continued interest in sleep health, airway function, and orofacial myofunctional disorders led her toward a more functional and whole-body approach to care.

Today, Essential-OMT allows Heather to focus on helping clients better understand the functional patterns that may be contributing to their concerns.
